'Safety Net'

My artwork, Safety Net, is a simple piece that features the colours black and red. The print is difficult to interpret but reflects a figure holding another but a relatively smaller figure. The format is messy and unorganised, which was my intention. I used Lino printing to produce this simple pattern, and it took several attempts and experiments to find the right layout.

The process for this final piece was long and difficult, yet every detail changed helped with the outcome. My artwork represents a parental figure shielding their child and/or family from the effects of war. The war aspect is not clear, but the individual red print, similar to all the other prints but for the colour indicates that they are just in a different environment, but the love is still the same and equal. The present situation in Ukraine, with all of those poor families struggling, inspired me to shine light on it.

My main goal was to provide not only others, but also myself, with a clearer understanding, via art, of the awful events and upheavals that have been occurring all over the world for generations. My piece helped me get little closer to achieving this goal since it provides a view on those struggling. I have improved many skills and even my patience as a result of completing this artwork. Making a concept in your head come to life is much more difficult than hoped, as I discovered when it took several different ideas and tries to produce a final, I was happy with.
