DAS DACKEL REICH COLOUR

The theme for This water painting is “das dackel Reich”, I the artist Doug Dupree, am calling it “das dackel Reich” which translates from German (where the dachshund first originated) to English as the dachshund empire, while I have combined the use of colours that were a mix of vibrant warm colours but were contrasted with soft subtle creative colours, especially the background has very loud warm bright colours mixed with cold quite colours that make a very unique collage of colours compared to the colours of the dachshunds that have quite soft colour the quietly hidden pink border that makes what’s with in the border eye catching and it makes the painting ‘’scream look and me’’, the use of the lines to separate the colours in the background shows the contrast

The steps I took to create this artwork started with:

  • I started by practicing some water painting techniques
  • I started with learning how to do some techniques by practicing then
  • I started tracing a photo of my dachshunds outlining their body and markers
  • Then once that was done, I started to paint them their colours
  • Once I had a rough design of the dachshund and they had been coloured in I started to do my abstract background but to stop the colours from mixing I bordered off the colours with black lines tape resist technique might have worked better

I want to share with viewers the big idea behind my artwork das dackel Reich is a portrait of my dachshunds and it shows their personality’s through their relaxing ways and their missing eyes to show how secretive and sly they are. The goal for my artwork was to reach something that displayed their personalities and traits in a bubbly happy manner. My thoughts on my artwork are that yes, I could have done things better by using the tape resist method that I learnt instead of doing the background freehand but by doing it free hand it’s given my artwork I think a little more personality and definition so I wouldn’t change it and I could have given my dogs eyes but it also provides a creative insight to their sly way of thinking.

LAZY dachshund’s black and white

I am calling this artwork “lazy dachshunds” for the simple reaso, they're lazy! I did this artwork in black and white to show definition and creativity of my dachshunds by the way they're curled up and crumpled all over each other.

The steps I took t To create my artwork:

  • I read up on how to do ink painting and asked Ms Holland how to do it
  • Got a black and white version of my lazy dachshunds
  • Grabbed my needed equipment, paint brushes texture and a palette
  • Then I turned on the light box
  • Then I started to trace my photo with ink
  • Took my time to do it right
  • Once I was done, I put it on the drying rack to dry my images

I want to share with viewers the big idea behind my artwork was a rough depiction of my dachshund baby’s, Cinnamon, Cassy and Mr limo in their natural state of sleeping> My goals for this artwork were to paint some cool images about my little dachshund’s. Though painting with ink was my first time I don’t think that I did the worst I admit I could have done my black dachshund (Mr limo) a lot better but he was hard because when the painting was converted to black and white, he’s black so he was erased.
